시차열팽창계(Dilatometer)에 의해 탄성영역에서의 일정 온도구간에서 늘어난 길이를 측정하여 평균 선형 열팽창계수 또는 순간 선형 열팽창계수를 계산하며 열팽창에 사용되는 시료는 서냉 전, 후에 따라 그 값이 달라지므로 Dead Annealing을 한 시료를 사용하여 측정한다.
